Use the questionnaire to send me a message. I’ll email you to set up a consultation via phone or Zoom, whichever you’re more comfortable using. We’ll talk about what information you already have and what you’re trying to find. We’ll also discuss what I can do for you and the details of the research proposal.

After the consultation, I will prepare a Letter of Agreement with a detailed outline of the following:

          Research goal(s)

Research parameters (repositories, amount of travel, etc.)

Amount of the initial retainer fee (usually $200 to cover the first five hours)

          Timeline for the project

Type of service or finished product

Agreed upon payment plan (typically in increments of $200 for each additional five-hour block)

If the Letter of Agreement meets your needs, you’ll sign it and send it to me, along with the agreed-upon retainer fee. I’ll countersign and provide you with a copy. You’ll also send me any information you’ve already collected that is pertinent to the project, and I’ll begin researching. As research progresses and the retainer is utilized, I’ll furnish you with a progress report. You’ll need to pay the subsequent retainer, if applicable, before the project continues.

Using my expertise, I will analyze any information you’ve already collected. I will then formulate a research plan, perform the research, analyze the records I find, and prepare a research report with my conclusions. The report will likely include the following:

My analysis of your previous research

Copies of any documents I find with source citations for each document

An explanation and analysis of each document (including abstracts or transcriptions when necessary)

          A summary of my findings

A list of all the repositories I searched

          Suggestions for future research

I will contact you when I’ve completed the report according to the timeline we agreed upon. According to our Letter of Agreement, I will furnish the report in either physical and/or electronic format.

GUIDED SELF-RESEARCH

The guided self-research will include my analysis of the information you’ve already collected and a list of detailed steps to help you continue researching on your own. If you complete the research and require additional research plans, you can contact me, and we’ll discuss the best way to move forward.

NARRATIVE GENEALOGIES

These genealogies will be presented in the form of a book. During our consultation, we’ll explore various printing options for the book, all of which will be detailed in the Letter of Agreement.

MILITARY AND LAND RESEARCH

Research for military or land can be presented in a research report or narrative genealogy format.

RECORD RETRIEVAL

This is done on a case-by-case basis and will be discussed in our initial consultation and outlined in the Letter of Agreement.
